Points-Based Immigration: Briefing on 17 March 2006

A briefing held by the Home Office and UKvisas was held for the education sector on Friday, 17 March. Members of the Executive Committee attended. A summary of the main points follows on the next page. There were some notable surprises. Please read this document carefully; AASAP members on the DfES Register will be notified about a consultation regarding accreditation, and we strongly urge members to respond.

Letter to the Home Office
28th January 2006
In October the Executive Committee sent a response to the Home Office consultation document about the proposed points-based system of immigration (available on the News page). On 16 December the Chair, Deputy Chair and Treasurer met with the Head of the Student and Visitor Taskforce (Marc Owen) and a Policy Advisor for the Taskforce (Mike Taylor). We were asked to provide further information about the association and its membership.

Proposed Immigration changes

A major overhaul of the UK immigration system is being proposed by the Home Office, which will have a serious impact on US study abroad. The consultation phase ends on 7 November 2005. The Executive Committee is responding on behalf of the association, but we urge all members to respond to the consultation document. Learn more
